If you don’t know indie psych-rock band Orange Doors, we’re gon’ tell you a little bit about them, because you need to know indie psych-rock band Orange Doors.

The second single, Disenchant (from their forthcoming album, Slaphappy), is going to take you on a ride. Like, a ride in a rocket ship. Like, a ride in a rocket ship through a game of Space Invaders.

Well, until the last minute of the song, when the trap door beneath your feet opens and, somehow ignoring space’s non gravitational field, you fall through the air, in a light, floating descent, then soar above your childhood hometown, crash through your neighbor’s roof, and find yourself in a rank, dimly lit basement.

At least, that’s the ride we went on.

Orange Doors' sound on this track is complex, the amount of overlay makes it just the right amount of chaotic, and their lyrics are equally elusive. From the get-go of Disenchant, they let you know what you’re in for, singing “I hope you’re ready.” They deliver on their promise to provide “good company” and “strange fun.

The track illustrates the muddled mind of an individual experiencing a disenchanting digression - from never wanting to lose someone to never wanting to see them again. We relate with the lyrics, “my sore mind can’t contain a thing at all” because listening to Disenchant makes us feel like the wings of a flock of birds are fluttering through our heads.

We were warned at the start that “these kinds of things they fall apart” but by the end, we are at once disillusioned with this stupid mess called love and yearning for Orange Doors’ next single.

The gentlemen of Orange Doors, Ian Russell and Michael Ewens, have a distinct personality (evident especially on their social media) and a common presence in the Charleston house show scene. Keep up with them online, check out their latest releases, and stay tuned for show dates and Slaphappy.
